HIGH SCHOOLS PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITIONS: Are a platform for in school youths to air their views on issues of policy, democracy, leadership, local governance, elections, peace building and other issues of national importance. NYDT notes that in school youths tend to get sidelined on issues being debated nationally. Through the High Schools debate fora, young people can have their diverse views collected into Policy position papers which are in-turn forwarded to relevant authorities to consider in their various deliberations.
HIGH SCHOOLS DEBATE COMPETITIONS: Like the High Schools Public Speaking challenges, the High Schools Debate contests seek to gather young peopleĆ¢€™s views on different issues of national importance. The Debate platform offers youths the skills to defend their positions and ideas in limited time and under immence pressure and competition from opposing ideas. It hence equips them for future positions of leadership, and grooms them for intellectual debates even at times when they have not been prepared for. Similarly, the diverse views are collected into Policy position papers which are forwarded to relevant authorities to consider in their various deliberations. Where implementatble, youth ideas are also incorporated into NYDT programmes to fulfill youth aspirations and ensure their participation even at organizational level.
SEMINARS: Various seminars, conferences and workshops are run by NYDT in line with the needs of the membership. These include Capacity building , leadership training, peace and conflict transformation, HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns amongst others.
PUBLIC LECTURES These are a platform were young peopleconverge under the NYDT banner and engage w ith policy makes on a specific issue .The elevant authority would be given a topic prior to answer the issue having came from the youth. These usually consists of huge numbers ,policy formulates answer question ,get recommendations and suggestions from young people then the organization then makes a follow up on the implementations.
LEADERSHIP FORA These set to groom young people on leadership skills ,traits and capacity them in taking leadership positions in their communities .Here they are trained to be praxis articulate and build on their confidence ,eloquence and how best they can lead and serve their communities.follow ups is then done to ensure that what they learrnt is put into practice through enabling them platforms in their communities were they address other young people on various issues ,in which it could be focus group meetings ,policy dialogue meetings and other NYDT activities.
MOBILE CINEMAS This is were young people under the NYDT banner converge to watch a film or documentary on an issue of concern in their areas, it could be a hall ,church ,or youth centre.Here the thrust is to appeal to the audio visual senses as they have a lasting impression on rememberance,young people then engage critically amongst themselves on the film or documentary in comparison with the situations they find themselves in .from this point come up with recommendations and suggestions as to how things should be done then the organization conveys the issues to the relevant stakeholders.
PUBLIC POLICY DIALOGUE MEETINGS These are meetings that are big and carter for for huge numbers were young people meet and discuss issues of policy formulation ,implementation with policy makers and seek to aire their issue s of concerns .the policy makers clarify ,answer, take recommendations and suggestions from young people .The organisation then makes a follow up to this such that the policy makers account .
FOCUS GROUP MEETINGS These are small in nature and young people meet and discuss an issue of urgency, usually with an NYDT secretariat member who overseas the gathering but does not chair it.This could be at one of the youths residence or youth centre..
